Role:
As a part of the Business and Management Systems Team, you will be involved in the design, configuration, deployment, support and maintenance of our Oracle products, databases and systems.
You will work closely with teams across Computing and Information Services, including application development and server teams in order to carry out activities such as, maintaining and supporting the Research Management Information Systems design, configuration, optimisation, migration, performance management, and security monitoring. You will also work closely in the design, development, support and maintenance of the Department's Identity Management systems.
You should be experienced with developing applications using Oracle PL/SQL, be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, experienced working as part of a large team and in line with ITIL Change Management processes.

Key responsibilities, accountabilities or duties:
* Participating in the co-ordination of all IT related activity concerning Research Management Information Systems and Identity Management Systems
* Assisting in the scoping and planning of changes and upgrades
* Developing required functionality in software according to agreed quality standards, specifications and timescales
* Significant experience in the provision and maintenance of MI solutions covering areas such as Oracle, Unix and BI environments for a medium to large business
* Knowledge of Oracle relational databases and database programming using PL/SQL
* Knowledge of and commitment to software development best practice including issue tracking, testing, documentation and version control
* Promoting and fostering positive and highly collaborative approaches to problem solving and project implementation, helping to motivate, mentor and coach project team members
* Liaise with other development teams to agree cross functionality regarding web services, required method implementation and shared work streams
* Making decisions about the nature and level of problem solving, physical and analytical tools, techniques and protocols to deliver project and service objectives, providing advice and making recommendations for resolution as appropriate
* Ensure that all applications follow established standards and best practice regarding security and data protection
* Contributing to the development of operational service activities to ensure excellence in the stakeholder experience.
* Assessment, tracking, monitoring and reporting on service improvement requests

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
* A degree level qualification or equivalent experience.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships both internally and externally.
* Significant experience in the development of solutions in complex environments.
* Proven experience of implementing, maintaining and supporting Oracle Products
* Experience of development of REST and SOAP API in an oracle environment
* Experience of supporting services in a customer-focused and structured fashion
* Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships.
* Ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.
* Ability to work on concurrent projects and prioritise a demanding workload.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
* An ITIL qualification such as ITIL Foundation, or demonstrable experience of working to a structured IT Service Management approach.
* Continuing professional development required to maintain professional recognition.
* Knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.
* Experience of being able to network effectively and develop strong and productive working relationships.
