Increase in trust for AI within HR Leaders
A recent survey revealed a significant shift in HR leaders' attitudes towards AI in the workplace, with 66% expressing a more positive outlook compared to last year. The study also indicated that 67% of HR leaders believe AI is as effective or better at identifying qualified candidates.
The research also highlighted AI's growing role in streamlining the hiring process. AI automates repetitive tasks, enabling recruiters to focus on the human elements of hiring and ensuring candidates receive timely updates on their application status. Concerns about bias are still being mitigated through company policies and government regulations. As AI becomes more transparent, candidates gain a better understanding of how their qualifications are assessed, fostering a positive perception of the hiring process.
The survey also found that 64% of candidates felt AI was as fair or fairer than human involvement in hiring, with 49% believing AI could reduce bias and unfair treatment. Despite these positive views, 79% of candidates wanted to know if AI was being used in the hiring process, and 75% opposed AI making final hiring decisions. Transparency is important in building trust with AI in hiring, advising HR departments to communicate clearly about AI's role and decision-making processes.
Rich Bye, vice president of global product vision and strategy at Workday, noted that attitudes towards AI in hiring are improving as its benefits become more apparent. He cited AI's ability to enhance productivity, reduce bottlenecks, and achieve measurable outcomes in candidate screening. For example, AI can scan CVs, suggest additional skills for applications, and assign match scores to help recruiters quickly identify top candidates.
However, the acceptance of AI in HR is not universal. The survey found that 42% of HR professionals are awaiting corporate guidelines on generative AI, while 33% have implemented tools like ChatGPT without official approval. HR leaders should prioritize selecting AI tools that adhere to ethical and regulatory standards, emphasizing the need for clear answers about fairness and compliance from potential vendors before adopting new technology.
