“Public Convenience” this weeks Cyber Insights from The National Cyber Skills Centre

Have you noticed how the cinema seems to be stuffed to the rafters with new superhero movies? Each and every character that has appeared in comics from the likes of Marvel, or DC, have been ‘rebooted’ and thrust onto the screen as modern day saviours of our world. I recall some of these characters from my childhood, but there is one that the movie makers have overlooked. One larger than life character that genuinely saved lives. A character that taught us all a much-needed lesson. That person was, of course, The Green Cross Code Man.

For those of you who are too young to be aware of this individual, he was a creation of the 1970’s and taught us all how to cross the road safely. His step by step guide, the Green Cross Code, which was essentially “Stop, Look, Listen, Think” assisted in greatly reducing pedestrian casualties of road accidents. Although looking back the advice from The Green Cross Code man seems obvious and almost laughable, it really did work. The government, through its Central Office of Information, developed and broadcast a wide range of what was labelled Public Information Films, in order to convey specific messages to the public on matters of concern...

Now would be the perfect time for a government led public awareness campaign on implementing basic cybersecurity measures.
